One of my favorite things about the holidays is making handmade gifts! Handmade holiday gifts add such a special touch to the holidays. Peppermint sugar scrub is a festive gift to make for your favorite people. I have a friend that once said she really appreciated a consumable gift, something that didn’t have to collect on a shelf for years and years out of obligation. She got to use the sugar scrub, enjoy it, and free up space. That’s an idea that I feel we can all get behind!
Supplies for Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Peppermint sugar scrub is easy to whip up and package in cute containers with fun labels. I got my containers from Amazon and thoroughly washed and dried them before using them to keep them sanitary. Previously, I would use the cute little glass mason jars for sugar scrub gifts but plastic is safer for the slippery shower environment. To design my labels, I used Silhouette Studio and then found some fun holiday designs for the top labels. I printed them on waterproof sticker paper so that they would stand up against water in the shower without getting ruined. For more info on the waterproof sticker paper, check out this post.
I typically make a big batch of sugar scrubs to give out as gifts to friends and family. To make this more economical, I buy my coconut oil from Costco. One tub will go a long ways! The other supplies you will need are regular granulated sugar, red food coloring, and peppermint essential oil. Use cosmetic grade oil because this is going on a human body, not into a diffuser. A hand or stand mixer will make this a quick project, but if you can also mix this by hand if you are in the market for an intense arm workout.
How-to Make Sugar Scrub
Start by coloring the sugar. Next, add in the coconut oil. Don’t use melted coconut oil. I like to use a hand mixer to mix in the coconut oil into the sugar. It’s fast and whips air into the mixture which makes it very fluffy. Next, mix in the peppermint oil. Depending on the brand of oil, the amount you need may vary. Use enough to overtake the coconut scent. Lastly, package the sugar scrub into clean containers and add a label. That’s it!
Peppermint Sugar Scrub
- 3 cups Coconut Oil Solid, not melted
- 3 cups Sugar
- 15 drops Red Food Coloring
- 24 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- Combine sugar and food coloring.
- Combine coconut oil into the sugar mixture by hand or with a mixer.
- Add peppermint essential oil and mix. Use enough to have the peppermint scent overpower the coconut scent. This will vary depending on the brand of essential oil.
- Package into sterile containers.
